I am not your token,

your adventure.

Not your unchained melody or

your liberation.

I am not a bird,

not a phoenix;

not a city on a hill or an empire.

I am a glacier and an iceberg and an avalanche:

I dig and collide and tumble through

crowded nebulae to reach

my own soul.

Fred Slusher is a librarian and full-time student in Southeastern Kentucky. He writes poetry to understand himself and the world around him. He hopes that by asking his Questions now, he will someday live to understand some of his Answers.
